Ayurveda literally means Science of Life
and is based on the principles of wholeness and balance. As a holistic healing
tradition, Ayurveda recommends treating the whole persons, that is body, mind, senses,
emotions, instead of following the principle of "one cause one root" and
focusing only on the symptoms. Your personal diet, sleep, lifestyle as well as daily
routines and internal cleansing are just as important as
herbs and medications in order to maintain good health. And Ayurveda means also
maintaining or preserving good health as it is about treating disorders.
Balance is the key:
According to Ayurveda perfect health is a state
where mind, body and spirit are balanced. All activities of the mind and body are
governed by three biological principles called Doshas Vata,
Pitta and Kapha.
Test Your Body Type Here if you want to know whether you are Vata Pitta or Kapha dominated.
Vata is mainly air and space, and governing all movements in the body: the blood circulation,
for example, or your breathing or your thoughts appearing in your mind.
Since the other two doshas, Pitta and Kapha, cannot move without Vata, Vata is
considered the lead dosha. Pitta, mainly fire and water, governs heat
and transformation. Digestion is an important Pitta activity. Kapha is made up mainly
of earth and water, and therefor, is essential to the structure and moisture balance.
Among other things, Kapha controls your weight and the lubrication in the lungs, for example.
Each of the doshas is also related to a season of the year. Kapha with Spring, Pitta
with Summer and Vata with Fall and Winter. When all of these doshas are perfectly in balance,
it means that all the systems and activities of the mind and the body are working perfectly,
and the person, therefore, is in perfect health. When one or more of these doshas are
out of balance, it results in disorders and malfunctioning of certain parts of the body.
Todays main reasons for the doshas to become imbalanced are improper diet or eating habits,
stress, pollution or weather. To restore good health, the dosha that has become imbalanced
needs to be restored to its optimal value in the person concerned.
The science of herb combining and processing
Although single Ayurvedic herbs and spices such as Brahmi, Turmeric and Ashwagandha
are popular, one of the most significant contributions offered by Ayurveda is the science
of herbal combination. A blending of a variety of herbs leads to a formulation offering
both the benefits of synergy and balance. An Ayurvedic formulation may contain twenty
or more herbs and spices. Primalary those that target the area of imbalance and
also other herbs that enhance the benefits of the "primary herbs", as well as
balancing herbs to minimize any possible side-effects from the actions
of the main herbs. The most complex of the traditional
Ayurvedic herbal combinations are an elite group called rasayanas, described
in the Ayurvedic texts for their positive impact on the physiology.
The second principle, sanskar, refers to the way the herbs are harvested, used
and processed. Ayurvedic formulations traditionally use the whole herb instead of
extracting the active ingredient from the plant. Nature's healing wisdom is perceived
to reside best in the plant in its entirety. Using the whole herb rather than
the isolated ingredient also contributes to a balanced formula less likely to have
sideeffects, because according to Ayurveda, each medicinal plant has both the primary effect
and the antidote present in it in its natural state. At the best Ayurvedic
manufacturing facilities, the natural intelligence of the plants are carefully
preserved in the final product by using traditional processing techniques that
do not use chemical solvents and damaging high temperatures. Following the harvesting
and processing techniques mentioned in the traditional texts results in a potent,
balanced formulation.
Ayurvedic herbs and formulations are increasingly catching the attention of researchers all over the world. The trend is to seek to blend the best of the ancient and modern medicine.
The Ayurvedic approach to health is gentle and comprehensive. The concepts of instant cures and taking pills for immediate relief are foreign to Ayurveda. Because the endeavor is to seek and correct the source of problems, imbalances in the physiology, the best results from Ayurveda come persons who are patient and persistent, who diligently adopt the associated dietary and lifestyle changes needed, and take a degree of responsibility for their own well-being. For those who do make the commitment, Ayurveda offers rich, cumulative health benefits that can help you enjoy a long, healthy and good life.
Ayurveda has formulated a number of medicines that enhance reproductive health
and vitalizes the sexual energy.
Treatments for diseases of the male and female reproductive system have been found very effective.
Treatments are given for sexual inability and enlarged prostrate
The concept of "TRI DOSHAS" (three bio energies) is central to Ayurveda.
Vata , Pitta and Kapha are the doshas.
When these energies are in balance, health is perfect. The aim of Ayurveda is the
balance of the three energies.
Ayurveda identifies human beings as a microcosm (small universe) that is part of macrocosm.
The universe as well as human beings are made of the five elements. The rhythm of life
is intimately connected with the rhythm of nature.
When the human body is perfectly in tune with nature, body mind and spirit will
be in perfect health resulting in an uninterrupted flow of creative energy.
This leads to a long and harmonious life enjoying all it's pleasures.
Physical diseases are due to improper eating, ignoring the cycles of seasons or our age.
The human body has the inherent ability to heal itself, if this is corrected.
Ayurveda helps to establish perfect balance between the inner and the world outside
with the help of herbal medicine. The Ayurvedic health care system lays emphasis
on the constitution of the individuals body. The first step is to find out the
body constitution through careful examination. Food habits, medicines, treatment etc,
have to be according to the individual body constitution. The Tri doshas
(three energies) concept is the basic of Ayurvedic healthcare.
Ayurveda identifies Vata (air, the moving energy), Pitta (fire, the digestive energy),
Kapha (the energy that protect the sensitive tissues with mucus) as the three vital energies.
The balance of all three of them results in perfect health. The combination of
these energies varies in every human being, and that determines the body constitution.
All Ayurvedic herbal medicines and treatments are intended to maintain a balance
between these three energies. Through five millenniums Ayurveda has perfected
this science, creating a health care system that gives its practitioners an edge
no other system can claim. In Ayurveda thousands of herbs were systematically analyzed
and the healing effects of various combinations of formulations were recorded.
The second chakra, Svadhisthana, controls kidneys, bladder, reproductive organs
and large intestine of the body and gonad. It is very closely related to the quality
of love and sex. If this chakra is normal the person enjoys mental and physical
well being. If it is blocked the individual will be impotent with premature orgasm.
In AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases Muladhar and Svadhisthana are clogged.
Bladder diseases, enlarged prostrate, hydrocele are associated with this chakra.
To arouse this chakra one should first of all concentrate on water or by gazing
at the crescent moon for half on hour daily. Repetition of Bija mantra "Vam" 51 times
daily definitely enhances sexual vigour and vitality. This chakra is also very closely
related to the effectiveness of mental activities, attention, concentration and meditation.
Keeping a picture of this chakra in front of you and concentrating on it elevates
creative and sustaining energy in the individual and a feeling of peacefulness.
A person with an active Svadhisthana chakra sleeps eight to ten hours in a foetal position.
For maintaining high self esteem it may be useful to tell yourself how important you are.
For proper functioning of this chakra one should keep fast on every eleventh day after the new moon.
